Gay and Lesbian Colleagues (First Presbyterian Church, Santa Fe NM)

Stole Text

In honor of our gay and lesbian colleagues by the Homosexuality Task Force, First Presbyterian Church, Santa Fe, NM  10/26/96

Contribution Story

During the summer of 1996, the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (USA), meeting in Albuquerque, passed legislation leading to a constitutional ban on the ordination of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.  Following this devastating Assembly, members of the Homosexuality Task Force of First Presbyterian Church in Santa Fe created twenty four stoles to honor their LGBT colleagues.  Although unnamed, these two dozen people included members of their own church -- including Michael Adee, Field Organizer with More Light Presbyterians -- as well as Doug Calderwood, Ken Cuthbertson and others throughout Northern New Mexico who had worked for equality in the Presbyterian Church for many years.
