A Women's Outreach Committee has
been formed and has received a mandate
from the Bd. of Trustees. Its
purpose is to reach out into the
lesbian community of New York, to
inform sisters of the activities of
the synagogue, and to encourage them
to join in our celebration of our
Jewish heritage and identity.
The committee invites all members
of the synagogue to contribute their
ideas and efforts toward these ends.
Committee members have already
begun to spread the word at meetings
and social gatherings of gay women's
groups. A flyer has been prepared to
be distributed at these times; copies
will be posted on the bulletin board.
Sisters in the community are being
informed of the unique, full participation
of women in religious services,
classes, and social events at our shul,
despite the problems that women have
often faced in other synagogues. This
participation will be even further
developed as more women find out about
our shul, lend us their talents, and
share in our Jewish re-education.
All synagogue members are invited
to attend meetings of the committee,
held at member's homes. Chairperson
Nancy Lowe will be glad to give you
details.
