Title

Reverend Bobbi Jean Baker

Subject

Minister Bobbie Jean Baker pulled herself up from drugging and stealing in the streets to become an influential figure in the transgender movement. Her story exemplifies how choosing a spiritual life can enable a person to reverse a downward spiral. That was the victory she had when she decided to take a different path after incarceration and never looked back. She became an usher at the City of Refuge UCC in San Francisco. She joined and enjoyed singing with the Transcendence Gospel Choir. Minister Baker was appointed adjutant and minister in training with Bishop Yvette Flunder. Minister Baker enrolled in seminary at the Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley and served as the West Coast Regional TransSaints Minister of the Fellowship of Affirming Ministries.
Additionally, Bobbi Jean Baker was a lay minister at Transcending Transgender Ministries. She worked for several Bay Area non-profits as a speaker and workshop leader. The skill development involved her various roles, including serving others as a peer advocate, case manager, and housing manager. Additionally, she was certified as an HIV Risk Assessment Counselor and as a Domestic Violence Specialist.
