Stole Text
This stole is a gift from the More Light Chapter at San Francisco Theological Seminary. It is given to recognize and give voice to the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender students who have gone before us and are currently in our midst. As more light is cast upon the scriptures, may our church become complete as all individuals called and gifted by God are recognized as unique, but equal partners in our mission of spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

(Note: A signature stole is one that is covered with the signatures of both gay and straight members of a congregation, denominational governing body, or other organization. These stoles serve the dual purpose of showing support for LGBT persons, while also protecting their anonymity by including their names as "one among many".)
This work of art was created by a student at SFTS. The left panel is charcoal gray streaks resembling smoke, with colors and symbols scattered randomly along its length. The right panel is colored with bright yellow and gold "flames with gold glitter. At the base is the symbol of the Presbyterian Church (USA) created from a wild tapestry of colored material. Above this, the same symbol appears blown apart, with the descending dove "released" at the top. Both sides are covered with signatures.
