Contribution Story

This is one of three signature stoles from the College of Wooster.  This stole is signed by faculty, staff and students of the college.  (Note: A signature stole is one that is covered with the signatures of both gay and straight members of a congregation, denominational governing body, or other organization.  These stoles serve the dual purpose of showing support for LGBT persons, while also protecting their anonymity by including their names as "one among many".)

The College of Wooster was founded by Presbyterians, and although it it now fully independent the college maintains close ties to the denomination.  Wooster boasts a long commitment to progressive values; the first PhD in the college's history was awarded to a woman, Annie Irish, in 1882.  The college admitted its first Black students in the 1880's and has always maintained an internationally diverse student body.
