He married in 1977, had two children, and was ordained in the Western Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church in 1984. When he came to terms with his homosexuality and spoke to his bishop about it, he was asked to leave the ministry. Reluctantly he did this.

Today Rod works in the mental health field, is in a 9 year committed relationship with his partner, Windle and they have adopted a child, Reggie. They happily live in Nashville, Tennessee.
</text>

              <text>
This is the first Roman Catholic stole given to the collection. Phil Campbell donated it on behalf of his friend, Roland Hollins, who passed away on July 21, 2000 at the age of 73. This satin brocade stole is a piece unique to Catholic and similar traditions that make use of multi-layer "high church" liturgical garb. It is short (less than 2') and wide, with a cross piece to hold its shape. It is intended to be worn over an alb or robe and surplice with a wide collar. Because of its distinct style, it has caught the eye of many Catholics who have viewed displays of the stoles over the years.

              <text>

The very brief statement on Rosemarie Wallace's stole does not begin to tell the story of one of the great pioneers in the Presbyterian Church and in the Welcoming movement.

Born in 1929 in Baltimore, MD, Rosemarie Wallace was a teacher, counselor and administrator in the Baltimore City public schools for 30 years. At Arlington Presbyterian Church in Baltimore, Rosemarie was first woman to be ordained as a deacon, and later the first woman ordained as elder. She was the first woman commissioner to Baltimore Presbytery and went on to serve as vice-moderator, moderator, and chair of the presbytery's governing council. In the Synod of the Piedmont, she was a member of the Permanent Judicial Commission. Rosemarie was twice elected as a commissioner to the General Assembly of the United Presbyterian Church, first in 1978 and again in 1981, where she served as Moderator of the Polity Committee.

After moving to Arizona, Rosemarie continued her active work in the church, serving several terms on the Session of Celebration of Life Presbyterian Church, as a commissioner to the Presbytery of Grand Canyon, as chair of that Presbytery's Preparation for Ministry Committee, and as a member of the Women's Ministries and Social Justice and Peacemaking committees, among others. She was elected the first woman Stated Clerk of the Synod of the Southwest, serving three terms from 1989-1994.

These accomplishments in and of themselves created a lasting legacy. But these accomplishments are made even more remarkable by the fact that she was also one of the first women to join in the formation of Presbyterians for Gay Concerns in the early 1970's (later renamed Presbyterians for Lesbian and Gay Concerns(PLGC), and now More Light Presbyterians(MLP)), a group openly advocating for the full equality of gays and lesbians in the Presbyterian Church at a time when there was precious little support for their cause. Rosemarie organized the first PLGC committee in Phoenix, AZ and later served two terms as national co-moderator of PLGC. In addition to her work in the More Light Movement, Rosemarie was also active in That All May Freely Serve and the Covenant Network, two other organizations working for equality in the Presbyterian Church.

Rosemarie was awarded the 2001 Hope Award by Community Church of Hope in Phoenix, the 2003 David Sindt Leadership Award by More Light Presbyterians, and the 2004 George Brooks Award from Grand Canyon Presbytery for her dedication to social justice, human rights and peacemaking.

Rosemarie passed away in 2004. Her long time partner, Tabb Forster, carries on her legacy by serving on the National MLP Board.

Dear Keith Wedmore,

TOWARDS A QUAKER VIEW OF SEX
Many thanks for your kind letter of the 12th instant. The parcel of copies of the booklet arrived safely and they have been suitably distributed to the J.R.S. Trustees and others.

Some time was spent on this at a Trust meeting held last Saturday and without exception members of the Trust were glad that this work ad been done and had been put into print. I cannot say that there were no reservations, but such as there were were much more to do with procedure than content and none was serious.

There was some discussion as to "what next." A good deal of ground has been covered or, it could be said, uncovered and whilst it was rather questioned whether the same group would wish to take various aspects of the study further or deeper, there was the hope here that somebody might.

Do you happen to know the mind of the group on this and whether there are in fact either plans or hopes of a follow-up or supplementary study. In the event, I think that this Trust would be glad to give a hand were some further modest help needed.

With all good wishes.
Yours sincerely,

Dear Keith Wedmore,

The Quaker Group on Homosexuality, etc.

Your letter of the 21st February to my deputy, Trevor Jepson, was considered at a meeting of the J.R.C. Trustees held last Saturday. As you will be aware, there is much interest and support here for the work being done by the Group and you may count upon a renewal of the £100 grant, at any rate for the current year.

The question was asked, however, as to whether the Group is a permanent body or whether for example the publication of the booklet or book is likely to be the point at which it will either continue independently and in the process attempt to secure wider financial support, or alternatively, hand over its work to the nearest competent Quaker body. As you will probably sense, the Trust does not with to take up the position of being a regular subscribers to the funds of the Group but rather to assist it during the present formative period in terms of a limited commitment only. Perhaps you would comment on this.

I gather from your letter it will be suitable if I sent along the 1961 grant of £100 to the FTU, Reginald Smith, at the end of next month?

With kindly greetings.
Yours sincerely,
Eric Cleaver, secretary

Dear Eric Cleaver

Quaker Group on Homosexuality etc

Thank you so much for your letter, which I will lay before the Group on its next Meeting in late April. I am, as I am sure they will be, most grateful to your Trustees for their renewed generosity. I agreed that the appropriate course would be to send the cheque to Reginald Smith as you suggest.

The group is not and cannot be a Permanent body, although it is certainly an unconscionable time a-dying. Essentially I think that what you have here is a small body of concerned Friends (entirely unofficial) who first met for some years to arrive at a shared conclusion on the problems which concern them (which they have done), and who then decide that the best way of airing, and sharing, their approach to these problems would be to set it out in a pamphlet or book. That (as I say) is in sight of completion. The Group look no further than that I think; and would throw the future of the concern entirely at large after that. They obviously cannot indefinitely continue to spend the time this concern has demanded; and I doubt whether any one of them would wish to pursue this much further in any event without some kind of recognition or authority from the Society itself. If the Society takes up this concern (as we hope) but will be for it to say that form its future pursuit is to take, I imagine, and I would have thought that with such direction would come the adoption of financial responsibility.

I hope that meets your point adequately.

I am bound to add of course that I am only the Treasurer of this Group and that I send off the above commentary on the assumption that it is a fair one and that you would rather have a reply now than in (say) 6 weeks when the group have met. So the above are my own views; but your letter and the contents of this will be laid before my colleagues when we meet again and If I am instructed to add or vary anything of the above I will.
With best wishes, and thank for your continued interest (which is as much appreciated as the money!)

Yours sincerely,
