Reverend Athena Vaughn

Rev. Athena Vaughn

"Church hurt is some of the worst hurt in the world because the church is supposed to be the hospital. It's supposed to be where you come to be released, healed, and understood. It should uplift you, not tear you down."

Listen to Athena Vaughn's interview.

Born in Boston in 1987, my name is Athena Vaughn. Two forms of service have led me to become a leading figure in the LGTBQ community for over fifteen years. I thank my grandmother and thank God for her. I thank her for guiding, supporting, and pushing me to live on my own terms. Due to her influence, I still believe in the church and live a life dedicated to service as an ordained Minister at the Community Tabernacle of Deliverance in Lynn, Massachusetts. Another part of my spiritual mission is to organize local ballrooms for trans and queer individuals to express their whole selves. My LGBTQ activism is a third spiritual commitment bridging both venues.
