Years Active: 2012–Present

Tradition: Unitarian Universalist

The Sanctuary Boston, a Unitarian Universalist community based inside the First Parish in Cambridge, welcomes individuals across faith traditions (including those who follow none at all), and is additionally “open to seekers of all kinds.” The community runs “small group ministry” gatherings that provide intimate spaces for conversation and interpersonal connection. Sanctuary Boston also runs a Campus Ministry program, “The Sanctuary Campus,” that connects local college students with welcoming community worship. Integral to Sanctuary Boston’s vision are “love and justice”; Sanctuary Boston has in the past held events like “Queer Loving,” a large-scale worship event honoring and engaging LGBTQ+ communities; on the event page, the organizers note: “at Sanctuary we can get real enough to recognize that the love that holds, connects and calls us IS Queer.”
