Carved Sanctuary Crucifix (ca. 1968–1970)

This carved wooden crucifix, created by artist Robert Robbins, served as the principal cross of the Church of the Beloved Disciple throughout its history. First displayed at the congregation's inaugural Eucharist in the Church of the Holy Apostles in Manhattan, it remained a constant presence as the community moved to successive worship spaces, ultimately hanging in the sanctuary at 348 West 14th Street. Depicting the risen and glorified Christ with outstretched arms and visible wounds, the crucifix embodied the church's theology of resurrection, welcome, and reconciliation.
