Description
Bishop Robert Mary Clement leads the solemn procession from Metropolitan-Duane United Methodist Church at 201 West 13th Street to the Church of the Beloved Disciple at 348 West 14th Street following his episcopal consecration on October 6, 1974. At his side walks Archbishop Martin Luther Williams of the African Orthodox Church, while clergy and supporters follow behind. The public procession through the streets of Greenwich Village visibly proclaimed the Church of the Beloved Disciple's apostolic identity, carrying the celebration of Clement's consecration beyond the sanctuary and into the neighborhood it served.
