Crozier Head with the Agnus Dei

The crozier's elaborately worked volute centers on the Agnus Dei (Lamb of God) carrying the banner of the Resurrection, a traditional emblem of Christ's sacrificial death and triumph over death. The engraved brass is embellished with colored cabochons and scrolling foliate ornament, combining Gothic and Romanesque decorative motifs. As the principal symbol of the bishop's pastoral office, the crozier expressed Archbishop Clement's vocation as shepherd of the Church of the Beloved Disciple while proclaiming the resurrection hope that stood at the center of the community's sacramental life.
