Title

Procession for the Feast of the Assumption

Description

Archbishop Robert M. Clement leads the Church of the Beloved Disciple's procession for the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary as clergy carry a flower-decked statue of the Virgin through the streets of Manhattan. By bringing one of the Church's principal Marian feasts into the public square, the congregation affirmed its deep devotion to Mary while demonstrating that LGBTQ Christians fully shared in the traditions of Catholic faith and worship. These annual processions expressed the Church of the Beloved Disciple's conviction that sacred ritual belonged not only within the sanctuary but also in the life of the city.
