Queer Spirit was a series of interviews that appeared on community radio with a liberatory agenda: to make visible queer life and the power of the sacred. This exhibit seeks to preserve and enhance that visibility by reaching out to a wider audience.

This exhibit explores the history of this show, how it responded to, and resonated with, the queer community in Maine, and the cultural moment it represented when it first aired on WMPG 90.9.

From there you can explore the history of the queer community radio program and discover how the OUT Cast collective offered many in the LGBTQ community a means of resisting efforts to silence or erase their experiences.

Finally, you will meet and listen to the various guests that appeared on the show who represented only some of the many ways that sexuality and spirituality comingle. By immersing yourself in these stories, the links between spirituality and sexuality are not only felt, but you may well be moved to share your own stories of queer life and the power of the sacred.

Let our queer spirits continue to make joyful noise and fill the airways!

This exhibit was curated by Kristofer Stinson, Ph.D
